Although, the federal minimum wage has gone up about ten times in the past thirty years, the minimum wage for tipped employes has only gone up about two times. The argument that greedy big restuarant chaines use in the lobbying for this is that menu price increases bring bigger check totals and therefor bigger tip totals and thats where we get our raises. Bullshit, most restuarant chains have increase the number of people a server has to tip out. It started with the busboy, then the bartender, then the hostess, and now the salad bar person or line expiditor extera...exetera. Additionally the amount of side work before, during and after increases year after year decreasing the number of tables a server can handle and incresing the number of hours that your we are working without customers.

Sat, March 8, 2008 - 10:15 AMDont work wherever it is that only lets you have small sections and high amounts of sidework. I finally found a restaurant that allows me to make money. Of course I have to tip out xtra to my busser who is great about assisting me. We can't strike against the unfair treatment but sure can sidestep these corporate restuarants who take advantage and expect people to live on 30 to 40 dollars a day plus 2.13 an hour. Then I have seen Coorporate Bosses who shiver at the idea of the increased livable wages. While they live in the big house and drive the big cars. Like why do they make twice as much as me and I am doin all the work?
